Pit orchestra layout

A proscenium stage with a sunken orchestra pit below the lip, holding strings, reeds, brass, keyboard and timpani. Pits are tight, so drawing them to scale shows you early whether the book fits, where the keys go, and whether the conductor can see the stage.

Setup tips

  • Put the conductor where they can see both the stage and the players. Check the sight-lines in the editor before the build.
  • Musicals often double reed books (one player covering flute, clarinet and sax). Each doubler needs extra floor space for instrument stands.
  • Keep loud brass and drums away from the pit rail, or add a plexi shield, so they don't swamp the singers.
  • Mark the cable runs and the pit entrance as annotations so the sound and lighting crew can plan around them.
